    What causes tinnitus?

Hearing loss is the most common cause of tinnitus but it can also be caused or aggravated by a number of other risk factors, including but not limited to:

    • • changes in hearing,
    • • long-term exposure to noise,
    • • ear wax build-up,
    • • middle- or inner-ear conditions,
    • • stress,
    • • and some medications.

While a tinnitus consultation provides valuable insights into your tinnitus, it may not always pinpoint an exact cause. However, it will help identify potential contributing factors, assess your hearing health, and guide you toward the most suitable management options.

Your tinnitus consultation may also lead to referral to other medical specialists, if necessary.

Can tinnitus be treated or cured?

There is currently no universal cure for tinnitus, but there are many effective management strategies. Depending on your assessment results, Dr Yovina can recommend tailored solutions such as hearing aids, lifestyle adjustments, or referral to other specialists, if necessary.

    Do hearing aids help tinnitus?

Yes! If hearing loss is contributing to your tinnitus, hearing aids may be a beneficial part of your management plan. As well as improving your hearing, hearing aids can be very effective in reducing tinnitus symptoms. Dr Yovina will assess whether hearing aids or other treatments may be suitable for you.

If you could benefit from hearing aids, they can usually be expertly fitted within a couple of weeks of your hearing and tinnitus consultation.
